Presently Grace House is leasing a home in a residential area of North San Antonio. There are presently seven women and one director living in the home.
Grace House provides twenty-four hour supervised living, which includes room, board and clothing. It gives training for the women on a group as well as an individual basis. Formal training includes classes in Anger Management, Substance Abuse, and job and college preparedness. Job and/or college training focuses not only on skill training, such as computers, writing, interviewing; but also prepares the women for appropriate social skills and customs within the work or college environment.
The women also take parenting classes, nutrition and health training, and are taught basic living skills, such as balancing a check book, household shopping, and house-keeping responsibilities.
In addition to instruction in physical, mental and emotional well being, spiritual training is a part of the Grace House curriculum. These teachings are critical for bringing hope into their lives through clearly defining the great worth that God places on each individual.
Grace House has been funded primarily through individual donations augmented by “fund-raisers” and Grants. Historically, funding has been sufficient to cover annual operating costs.
Grace House is presently building an 8,000 square foot home, capable of housing up to fourteen women. Approximately two acres of land have been secured for the home at no cost to Grace House. The future home will be located in San Antonio on Highway 90 West, in the South Texas Centre. To date, approximately half the funds necessary have been raised and set aside for this project. |
